First impressions last forever! Positive ones open many doors.
A candidate’s appearance is the first noticeable attribute in an interview – whether it's an online interview or in-person. Our attire underlines our personality the moment we engage with an interviewer.
Confidence in our education and skills are critical for strong positioning; a dull or ill-groomed physical appearance will most likely shut any chances we may have.
We have a short time to impress the interviewer. A subtle but best way is through a professional and appealing appearance. It guarantees positive attention.
Will you ever go to a formal party dressed in your night suits? How can an interview expect you to be less than spectacular?
Sherlock Holmes would have said – “Elementary, my dear Watson.” And we do not need sophisticated forensics to know that we often end up neglecting the obvious. Are the shoes polished? Is the shirt well ironed and tucked in? Are the tie and sleeves well put? Is the hair well-combed? These are equally important as having all the documents in place or our research before an interview.
A well-groomed appearance not only leaves the interviewer feeling positive but also increases the candidates’ confidence. Starting an interview on a positive note, significantly increases the chances of getting the role.
Our physical appearance is not the only window to our character and knowledge. But, at the same time, it is human nature to form an opinion based on sensory perceptions – visual appeal is the strongest one.
