The pace of digital change has accelerated in the last year across all industries. With this change came the realization that a company's workforce is core to its survival. As a result, businesses have had to rethink recruiting, retaining, and managing their employees.
It's no secret that in the period of great resignation, employees from all walks of life have been leaving their positions searching for a job with purpose, a work-life balance, and often more money.
Managers' lack of engagement and initiatives to understand their employees' personal and professional aspirations have undoubtedly been among the key contributing factors to the trend.
Companies that set clear standards are open to queries, encourage creative problem solving, acknowledge employees' emotions, and provide a clear sense of purpose have the most content employees.
There are various trends that organizations should pay attention to tackle the growing employee dissatisfaction:
Understand your employees' goals
Managers should place a greater emphasis on the depth and quality of their developmental discussions with employees. For example, do you have a thorough understanding of your goals and the abilities required to achieve them?
In addition to having one-on-one conversations regarding development, invite the entire team to participate. Recognize where each team member is headed and how you may guide them in improving their performance.
Remain transparent
An organization should be clear about what it can and cannot deliver. Allow the team to decide whether a particular ideology or course of action is appropriate for them and invite them to voice their opinions. Tell them about your company's goals, how you plan to achieve them, and regard each employee's feedback as valuable.
With the onset of the great resignation, you must show your appreciation to your workforce. Talent retention must be a top priority. Employees should be involved in developing a company-wide experience vision and determining what motivates them to come to work.
Seek feedback
HR and company leaders should send personalized communications to workers who had difficult onboarding experiences, thanking them for their input and emphasizing how it helped others. They should also send thank-you notes to leaving employees during the offboarding process, recognize their contributions, and seek honest feedback.
Create processes and mechanisms where employees can openly share feedback.
Being grateful for the received feedback will result in increased engagement and retention. In addition, your company will thrive if you show your employees that they are essential.
Have a diverse workforce
In a diverse company, more ideas and methods are feasible. Employees with a broader range of abilities and various experiences and perspectives have a greater chance of increasing production.
People want to work for companies where they can follow their passions and explore, create, and invent with people from various backgrounds to produce meaningful results. Companies must focus on building diverse and inclusive cultures in which people can be their authentic and whole selves, take chances, and be empowered to contribute to the business as we develop and create a world where there is more equity and opportunity for all.
On the final note, in these uncertain times, to provide employees with the autonomy they require, companies must establish values rather than policies, engage in employee development and foster a sense of belonging, and empower people with the tools they need to thrive.
